Travelling abroad is interesting but also challenging. If this is your first time traveling overseas, you will need to plan ahead in order to avoid unexpected circumstances. International travel can be difficult to navigate for a first timer. There are cultural, social and etiquette differences that you really need to know. One of the most common mistakes made whilst getting ready for a holiday is packing too much. Not only is it often not necessary to take so many clothes and accessories, but it can also cost you money if your suitcase ends up weighing more than your allocated luggage allowance. Therfore, it is better to list out neccesary items needed to bring when travelling abroad in order to save time and make sure that you do not forget any essential and important things.
This following list will help you with quickly preparation. Moreover, in worst circumstances as losing luggage, this list will provide you enough information to do the procedures for luggage or property loss.
1) Documents and money
– Passport: It is really important to bring your passport along with you, especially when you plan to travel abroad. It is better to scan your passport and save it to your mobile phone or store in your email account. You can also prepare copies of the passport in case your passport gets stolen or lost.
– Visa: Many countries will require visa. Therefore, you have to make plan for visa interview. In addition, your passport has at least 6 months of validity.
– International driving license is necessary when you are abroad and want to use self-drive car rental service.
– Travel insurance: Buying travel insurance will cover any medical conditions, injuries or accidents that may occur.
– Camera or photo permit, where required.
– Bring activated Visa/Master card so that you can use it for transaction while travelling abroad. Make sure the card will work in the country you travel.
– It’s better to bring USD and do currency exchange at the airport.
– Telephone numbers and addresses at destinations – maybe needed for landing cards.
– A proper guidebook and a map.
– Printed copies of accommodation you will be staying. Although almost everywhere accept e-copy of a reservation on smartphone, it’s better to prepare a hard copy.
2) Electronic items
– Mobile phone, camera, Ipad/Ipod, charger, laptop (if need) and a charger adapter due to the different size plugs worldwide. It is necessary to charge all the electronic items before your trip.
3) Essential medical kit
– Pain pills.
– Cold/flu, stomach meds.
– Band-aids.
– Sunscreen.
– Insect repellent.
4) Clothes and belongings
Check the weather forecast before travelling in order to prepare suitable luggage. A jacket, an umbrella and a pair of waterproof shoes will be useful items in your travel suitcase. It’s better to leave expensive items at safe place.
– Proper suitcase. It is much better to choose a luggage with wheels.
– Spare clothes.
– Footwear.
– Personal hygiene items as shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes,… You will need to check the liquid rule for hand lunggage (i.e: 100 ml travel sized containers or less per item).
5) Packing list if you travel with baby
– Diapers.
– Blankets.
– Plastic bags to store diapers and clothes.
– Wipes.
– Small bottles of baby wash and baby lotion as well as baby first aid kit.
– Clothes, hats, gloves, sockes, shoes.
– Bottled milk and feeding equipments.
